Yuyo Steamship To Install Hitachi Ballast Water Treatment System On Ship

Published: 28-Jul-2010

Yuyo Steamship has planned to install ClearBallast, a ballast water treatment system developed by Hitachi Plant Technologies that uses a coagulation and magnetic separation system, on the LPG ship Sunny Joy (tank capacity: 78,000 cubic meter).

The installation of ClearBallast on the Sunny Joy will be done in November 2010 by the Innoshima Shipyard of Universal Shipbuilding.

The company has made the decision to install the water treatment system following a shipboard testing of ClearBallast, conducted by Hitachi Plant Technologies between April 2008 and March 2009.

ClearBallast was installed on Yoyo Steamship's LPG ship Yuyo (tank capacity: 78,500 cubic meter) and the companies jointly worked on the development and practical use of the system.

ClearBallast does not use disinfectants and is claimed to reduce accumulation of mud and other deposits in the ballast tank, thereby reducing maintenance and operation and power costs.

The system has been designed to adapt to explosion-proof specifications and to treat drain water from shipboard kitchens and showers (gray water).
