Florida Government Utility Authority to purchase water and wastewater systems
The Florida Government Utility Authority (FGUA) has entered into an agreement to purchase most of the water and wastewater systems in the state that are currently owned by Aqua Utilities Florida and Crystal River Utilities.
The Board of the utility approved a capital of about $49.2m to purchase the systems and bring them under government control.
FGUA system manager Robert Sheets remarked that the purchase will result in benefits to the customers.
The authority is planning to stabilize rates and will continue to improve the quality of service for these customers following the acquisition.
The purchase of the facilities is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2013.
